Even as we anticipate the opportunities and prepare for a challenging 2016, I’m certain that together, we will continue to infuse hope and optimism in the lives of patients and their families in the New Year.
Looking back at a noteworthy half century and reiterating our commitment to bringing quality medicines to patients across the nation, OPPI’s Golden Jubilee milestone event will indeed remain memorable, as we witnessed the coming together of the entire pharmaceutical industry to commemorate and recognise our contribution. With OPPI completing 50 years, we hope to earmark this year with special discussions and events that raise discussions and shape minds on topics linked to innovation and healthcare access for all, in India.
Today, the healthcare needs of our burgeoning nation are immense with increasing life expectancy, non-communicable disease spreading in epidemic proportions, and better access required for high quality and newer drugs and vaccines. All of these needs must be responded to in a collective commitment to patients that they will be guaranteed responsible healthcare.
Our Government has indeed taken several steps to emphasize on life sciences as a strategic sector, increase investments by liberalising FDI in Brownfield and Greenfield pharma projects; signal its intent to become a significant declaring its intent to encourage research and bring the spotlight on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), and by creating a single window concept for approvals of industrial sites, in many States, while also reopening the Clinical Trials sector and establishing transparent drug approval systems.
As we step into the New Year, we remain committed to the goal of Health for All. We will continue to partner with Government to support more inclusive healthcare across India. We hope that institutional commitment and political will combine with industry support to strengthen the healthcare sector. Together, we can surely realise the dream of an Inclusive Healthy India within the next decade.
